Reporting from The New York Times, “The Brazilian authorities are investigating one of the worst attacks on the country’s democracy in the 38 years since the end of the military dictatorship, after thousands of supporters of Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s far-right former president, stormed government buildings in the capital, Brasília, on Sunday to protest what they falsely claim was a stolen election. … In scenes reminiscent of the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol, Mr. Bolsonaro’s supporters on Sunday laid siege to Brazil’s Congress, Supreme Court and presidential offices — the violent culmination of years of conspiracy theories advanced by Mr. Bolsonaro and his far-right allies. They set fires, repurposed barricades as weapons, knocked police officers from horseback and filmed their violent acts as they committed them.”
Look, fucktards! I don’t know how much more plainly I can say this: Democracies are under attack worldwide, and democratic governments and institutions are asleep at the wheel. Democracy is losing! I must admit that I fell into the same happy trap once Lula won, but I should have known better, for other authoritarian forces in the world have been rising, namely in Israel — a once liberal bastion born out of the ashes of fascism. Now fascism has come to Israel. It is not enough that liberal democracies prevail in countries; they must dominate and destroy anti-democratic movements within those countries. It is not enough to allow these “protests” to persist in the name of “freedom of speech,” for these fascists abuse the notion of freedom to intimidate and take over democracies because such liberal-leaning politicians who want to preserve democracy are inherently weak in the face of authoritarianism.
Has democracy reached its limits? I truly wonder. Is humanity just too fucking stupid that it must constantly revert to non-thinking forms of governments that authoritarians impose? What is it with humanity? What is so attractive about Bolsonaro and traitor trump that they have people up in arms to defend them and demand that they return to office to oppress them? Oh, yeah. It’s the hate! Therein lies the true problem. It is the hate embraced by authoritarianism versus the “can’t we all just get along” embraced by democracy. I tell you now, morons. Democracies need to grow a spine, or they will perish. They are dying worldwide as we speak because they don’t know how to fight back. Oh, well. The age of democracy is over; the age of authoritarianism is here. Mark my words! Welcome to stupid America. Humanity is just not smart enough.
