It is a ruse. It is all propaganda. Just think how Putin would manipulate the “talks” to his advantage. That’s all you need to know about Russian’s motives.
And Zelenskyy is right to be very skeptical yet engage; he needs to show that he is trying everything. It will give him more legitimacy to stay the course of resistance and encourage aid from other countries. No matter what, he always needs to be seen as the more “rational” actor on the world stage. (I say “rational” because many pundits are abusing that term. I’ll save that for another post.)
