Ugh! So much stupid. From CNN, “It was a referendum. Now it’s a choice. For political professionals in both parties, that’s the capsule explanation for why the Democratic position in the midterm elections appears to have improved so much since summer began. When the election looked to be primarily a referendum on the performance of the Democrats who control the White House and Congress, Republicans were optimistic that a towering ‘red wave’ would carry them to sweeping gains in November. But with evidence suggesting more voters are treating the election as a comparative choice between the two parties, operatives on both sides are bracing for a closely contested outcome that could include an unusual divergence in results for the House and those in Senate and governor races. ‘It feels to me to be more like a shallow red puddle that we’re walking through, rather than a tsunami of sorts,’ says Republican strategist John Thomas.”
This CNN quote typifies the MSM characterization of the forthcoming midterm elections, and I reject it all. It’s always the same old dichotomy of a “referendum” versus a “choice” election. I maintain that it’s always a choice election, and not because of the literal physical activity of having to choose a candidate on a ballot. I constantly fail to understand the “logic” of defining an election as a “referendum” on a president in particular. The MSM and stupid Americans seem to believe that midterm elections are an opportunity to send a message to the president (or party in power) about their displeasure, which basically translates to either a choice of green-lighting more of the same or creating a divided government and thus gridlock — that is to say, nothing more gets done. Given the regularity with which the electorate vacillates between the desire to grant a president the Congress he needs to achieve success and to change Congress to stymie his agenda, it would seem voters do far less “choosing” and “sending” a message to the president than one may want to believe. Voters seem to vote as a reflex to counter whatever is current.
In short, voters are just petulant children, unable to stay the course, always wondering what the government has done for them lately. Every two years, voters keep jerking the country from trending right to trending left and then back again, just long enough to accomplish marginal improvements. No wonder America is a f***ing mess. Americans keep complaining about the lack of change but vote to thwart change at every opportunity, and I am mostly speaking to dumbass Democrats and left-leaning Independents, for they are the factions that determine the strength of the conservative movement. RepubliKKKlans typically vote in consistent numbers. The turnout of Democrats and Independents determines how much strength RepubliKKKlans wield in elections. When Democrats and left-leaning Independents get complacent and lazy, then we get traitor trump. When they’re active, we get Biden with barely enough Congressional support to get his agenda through the legislature. But whatever.
And that brings me to my last point. Regarding the House elections, it does not matter whether RepubliKKKlans take back the House with a one-seat margin or a 50-seat margin, for the result will be precisely the same: RepubliKKKlan control. So all these revised predictions by political pundits about fading RepubliKKKlan expectations of a red tsunami are meaningless because radical conservatives and MAGA morons can achieve the same result with just a puddle: Drowning America’s democracy to death. Mark my words, morons. Redistricting alone has guaranteed this outcome, and please, for the love of God, stop expecting the abortion issue to change that. Sure, one special election here or there may serve as a counterfactual event, but that is not the same as a midterm election. While the Senate may not change party control, Biden will be a lame duck president as House committees investigate everything under the Sun and kill any and all legislation supported by Democrats. Imagine Marjorie Taylor Greene in control of the intelligence committee. Enough said. And don’t get me started on state-elected contests. That is a whole other disaster in the making for the likes of Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Welcome to stupid America! Eh!
