I am going to go out on a limb here and predict that on 30 June 2026 at 8:56 AM ET, SCOTUS will place restrictions on birthright citizenship once enshrined in the 14th Amendment, going against what many legal experts predict. I’m not sure what those restrictions are, but I think this Court will wipe away 150 years of precedent, re-interpreting and redefining birthright citizenship in some form or fashion. The High Court is not without its own sense of drama and anticipation. I mean, Americans love a good thriller show! They save the best cases for last for a reason. The conservatives love the spectacle of shivving Americans before they leave for Summer vacation. If I’m right, I will crow loud and proud and say I told you so. If I’m wrong, I’ll admit it. I’ve laid down my marker. So, mark my words well!
Well, at 11:12 AM, it looks like I was wrong, but just barely. The split was 5-4 or 6-3, depending on how you parse the opinions. But it is certainly too close for comfort, considering the subject at issue is a constitutionally protected right. But whatever. America’s democracy, the rule of law, and the Constitution are being eroded daily — and no one cares. Welcome to stupid America. The end is near!
